Lyrics
Awaken with the songbirds
The sun she rises slow
I’m heading off somewhere
In these hills I’ve come to know
My feet carry me swiftly
As snowmelt in a stream
I can’t help but wonder
If this life is but a dream
I was born a child of the plains
That’s where my family remains
But my sprit flies
With the mountains of the sandhill cranes
I’ve been taken higher
I’ve been laid down low
Filled with reverence and wonder
As the alpine starts to glow
I’m howling with the moonlight
There’s a crispness on the breeze
The fire warms my bones sweetly
And sets my mind at ease
I was born a child of the plains
That’s where my family remains
But my sprit flies
With the mountains of the sandhill cranes
Hidden valleys filled with flowers thick as thieves
Golden embers as the aspen shed their leaves
Frozen hillsides all blankets of white
Then Spring returns the light
I’m drifting off toward slumber
I lie embowered by the lines
The starlight soothing as a soft kiss
Horizon offers up her lines
I was born a child of the plains
That’s where my family remains
But my sprit flies
With the mountains of the sandhill cranes
